I find myself unaccountably sad to read about the death after a skiing accident of Natasha Richardson at the age of 45.

It is particularly mystifying since looking down her filmography, I can say with some certainty, that I have not seen any of her films though I think I may have seen her in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes on TV as Violet Hunter in the adaptation of Copper Beeches.

I suppose it is just the thought of someone being cut down in their prime.

It's sad, but it would have left me even more directly moved had it been Joely. Natasha was a fine actress though.

I've seen her in a couple of films that Karly has, The Parent Trap and 101 Dalmatians (the one with Glenn Close playing Cruella DeVil) but know next to nowt about her; still I, also, have found myself quite stricken by her sudden death. I think it's the fragility of life, that that we're here one minute and can be gone the next. It's Liam Neeson I feel for.

It is a sad thing, not just to die but to die so randomly.

I was thinking the same thing this morning. I liked her as an actress, have seen her in a few things, and it has brought home a bit the capriciousness of life. How can you die from a small skiing accident that you walk away from? Such a shame for all involved.

The Parent Trap was her, 101 Dalmatians was her sister Joely.

The only one of those I've seen is Gothic, which is good film, if a tad odd.

A sad loss non the less.

I saw The Parent Trap a short while ago, one Sunday afternoon. I actually tuned in because I thought it was the original (the one with Brian Keith, Maureen O'Hara and Hayley Mills) and I hadn't seen it in years.

Although initially disappointed that it wasn't the original, I sat and watched it, and bar a couple of bits where the updating really didn't work, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it seemed apparent that all the main cast had a blast making it. There seemed several moments where I guessed the director called CUT instants before one or the other of the cast cracked up laughing...

Edit to add: It may be entirely selfish, but the thought that she was a shade over a year older than me has been sending chills down my spine since I heard.

I think that it might be due to the suddeness of the whole thing - from an apparently minor injury to life support. Unlike, say, Ron Silver or Pat McGoohan, there wasn't any sort of indication that it was going to happen.
