Today we wandered down to Westminster. I wanted to show [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle some of the more interesting places around her new office, which is located on precisely the same spot as my old office before it was demolished a few years back.

Unfortunately, I don't wander down that neck of the woods much these days, or I should have known that many of the eateries, cafes and other haunts didn't survive the period of renovation. Hmm. Oh well, never mind. We did manage to get around to look at a few things, including a brief wander around the Tate Gallery, though it didn't take long before we were both cultured out and back, wandering along Millbank in search of beer and food.

I took my camera with me, and despite having switched it to some bizarre and inexplicable setting a couple of weeks back, I managed to get a few decent photos while we were out.

This is St.John's on Smith Square, taken from Lord North Street. Completed in 1728, it does lean to one side slightly. It's not my photography for once.

Various pictures (above) of the cloisters at Westminster Abbey.

The Abbey from Parliament Square. The Great North Door is on the left edge of the picture.

The Abbey from outside the Palace of Westminster, at dusk. That's Henry VII's Lady Chapel lit up and sadly blurred...

Some very nice cloister shots there.

Incidentally Smith Square was once home to a certain O. Moseley, and some former Tory ministers too.

The Abbey is rather photogenic, yet I've never really stopped to shoot it before.
Thank you.

We had hoped to go inside the main part, but being Sunday and all, they were insisting on their church services. We could have done the God thing, but not taken pictures.

Selfish bleeders.

[note to self - check out the Abbey on a weekday]
