For some reason, LJ App posted the photo at the third attempt, but swallowed the text. Hello then, edit function! We drove down to Tywyn this afternoon, in the sunny county of Gwynedd in North Wales. The only web access I have until Friday is via my iPhone, so don't expect very long posts for a day or two!

Posted via LiveJournal.app.

it became apparent while we were at the Linen Mill in Dinas Mawddwy, that the RAF have taken delivery of some new Typhoon fighter aircraft and were flying them down the valleys. This part of North Wales is often used for low flying practice and it is not uncoomon to be able to look down from the road to see a jet speeding below you! I managed to snap this one peeling off to fly down the adjoining valley, across the pass towards Machynlleth. Sadly I only had my iPhone available, but then if I'd used a proper camera, I wouldn't have been able to post it for ages!

I can't help with pictures of Scotland, but I hope to grab a few photos of the locality here in Wales and post them when I have more reliable Internet access.

thats the problem, it seems that Wales is so beautiful and green too! all i see out my window is brown grass and patches of snow.

out of curiosity what are the winters in Wales like?

Winters in the UK are generally much milder than you would expect from the latitude because of the Gulf Stream. Wales gets a lot of rain, with snow usually on the mountains rather than the valleys, though like the rest of the country it has its moments!

We did see a very small patch of snow atop one of the mountains when we were driving down, but it is very rare by this time of year.

You might want to consider amending the settings on the app to post at a smaller size - not only will it upload faster and with less problems, will be a bit easier to read on a friends' page :)

I've put a cut in here and fiddled with the app settings for next time (it had never actually occurred to me... D'OH!).

Your photo - could have been a backdrop for the Conservative manifesto launch!

That is not a Typhoon.

That is a Panavia Tornado.

Sadly, thanks to the intervention of the late HRH Princess of Wales, one has to assume that the visual phenomena below it isn't a cluster bomb.....

I saw a Typhoon quite close up from the car park. I was in the car when I saw that one and managed to grab the picture. I assumed it was a Typhoon but realised later that it wasn't. I was going to edit to say, but I shan't now, because you have identified it better than I would have.
