What sort of Beatles fan am I when I forget that yesterday was good old Ringo’s 70th birthday?

The mad old drummer celebrated at the Hard Rock Café in New York before performing with his band at Radio City. The old boy has clearly gone partially potty, but still manages to keep going with regular album releases and tours with the All-Starr Band.

The concept of the All-Starr band is one of genius. Recognising the limitations in his own abilities and the fact that most people under the age of 40 won’t have a clue who he is (unlike the immortal and omnipresent Macca), he has hit the (primarily US) tour circuit, where there are many, many, wealthy and aging baby boomers who both know and appreciate him and his band. The band has a permanently transient line up, with only Ringo there full time. Everyone else is a mate of Ringo’s from the music business over the past 50 years. Many of them have been big (some legendary) names in the past and still grind out the tunes with glee. Their careers may be rather more low key now than in the past, but there is still an audience for them. And most of them can sing, too.

Happy birthday, Ringo. Peace and Luv, peace and luv

You're not allowed to call him Ringo anymore, he apparently insists on his real name (unless it's band-related, then there's money involved)
