Today on the way home we bought towels. THREE towels. Actually we bought two hand towels and something called a bath sheet. I have never heard of bath sheets before: it is a HUGE bath towel. It is imperial purple. Above all, it is soft.

We didn't think that we needed towels, but we did.

We have loads of towels of various shapes and sizes, but some of them have been inadvertently misplaced or misfiled or something. I know we brought them from The Carpathia, I know we unpacked them. I do not know where we put the and neither does [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle. The missing towels were only some of the towels and we got by with what we had until the fateful day when all but one were in the laundry. Still the remaining towels remained stubbornly hidden, so all we had was the one towel. The RED towel.

This RED towel has been reserved for the use of Furtle. That's okay, by default I had my own towel - though where it has been stored, God only knows. So I showered and I used the only towel available.

Who knew GURLS' towels were so soft? Did anyone else? Not me. It seems that I have been drying off with sandpaper, while Furtle luxuriated in the soft coziness of the RED towel.

Well now. We have bought new towels. The secret is out. I have a PURPLE bath sheet and it is soft. I don't care where those other, rough scoury things are. I have a new towel.

Nyer.

I thought he might. Which Caesar, though - Julius or Nero?

Well, I think I should go for a Byzantine (East Roman) Emperor simply because I like the name: Basil the Bulgar Slayer!

That would be devilish indeed.

They may be acquired from House of Fraser (erstwhile Army & Navy in Victoria St), which is the surface equivalent thereof…

Bath sheets are amazing. Especially after some fabric softener and a tumble dry!

I don't know how common it used to be but the inlaws used to keep two grades of towel, the soft ones and the sand papery ones. I'm not sure if they just did it by tumbling some and line drying the others as I can't remember them having a tumble drier, but they very specifically had the sand papery ones for drying with and then the soft ones for, I believe, wearing after (I assume while hair dried or some such) quite odd.

Mr M purchased a bright orange bath sheet that wraps aound his not inconsiderable circumference with ease - and a lot of overlap. I am a bit scared of it because even though my circumference is not modest I do lack stature and large-bright-orange-whimpering-heap on shower-room floor was only thing achieved when I tried to sneak a go of his bath-sheet
