We have just spent a half hour or so watching the live feed of the Chilean miners' rescue on BBC News.

I have to say, that whatever the longer term fallout concerning the state of the mining industry over there - and I am sure there will be some: I seem to recall there being a report that for the hundreds of mines in the country, there were/are only two full time inspectors (happy to be corrected on that) - Chile seems to be acquitting itself very well in this particular crisis. Watching the recorded pictures of the first miner coming up was quite emotional. By the time the ninth miner came up and we were watching it live, it was noticeable that everyone was rather more calm and stoic.
