philoko commented adversely on the quality of media coverage of the event (I think it was a comment over on Twitter rather than here, but I can't be bothered to check!).
Peter Brookes in The Times has something to say on the quailty of 24 hour news coverage on the very point:
Quality of broadcast news coverage has fallen dramatically as the quantity has increased and the imagination/ability of the people on the spot to analyse what's going on and why is diminished, too.
