After a very late night on Saturday, we didn’t really achieve anything yesterday, not even the walk around the park we had promised ourselves. Sunday morning can’t be said to have happened on account of playing World of Warcraft until about 3.30 am, which was naughty, I suppose, but fun. Of course, since we were dungeoning with other guild members, it highlighted just how poor our character layouts and skill sets were, so the remainder of Sunday got swallowed sorting that out.

Ahem.

Of course, in the evening, we caught the bus to Wanstead to see [livejournal.com profile] mrtonylee and [livejournal.com profile] belle_fille1982, where we chatted, devoured huge amounts of pizza and watched the inestimable Sharktopus.

Magnificent is not the word!

Had Roger Corman never existed, it would have been necessary to create him simply to make this movie. It is transcendent, it is awe-inspiring, and it is quite simply one of the most remarkable pieces of film making that has ever been perpetrated.

We saw a clip or two from Megashark versus Giant Octopus. I must see this movie so I can compare the two appropriately.

Wow, I MUST see this film. From a zoological perspective of course, I'm most interested by the backwards facing spines coming out of it's gill slits. Modified ribs, maybe?

You have to approach it with the correct attitude if you wish to enjoy it, certainly.

To be fair, that picture was grabbed off the web - we didn't watch it at that level of quality! ;-)

That's 90 minutes of your life that you'll never get back.

It's a work of art. You can actually see Eric Roberts aging before your eyes every time he has to deliver one of those lines.

Especial treats to watch for:

- The obviously-applied-with-marker-pen tattoos of the cameraman fading, changing position and re-blackening
- The leads looking in completely different directions when the Thing appears
- The male lead's (obviously contractual) need to get his shirt off, and the hilarious amount of costume changing between wetsuit, shirtless and fully clothed that appears to occur during one short, tense chase scene on a boat.

Plus, of course, the sharktopus. It's a work of diseased genius.

You are quite right. I remarked at the time that the cameraman's tattoos were not unlike Rorschach's mask.

Also, in the boat chase, other than the fact that the 'marksman'never got to hold the gun, the cutting suggested that the hero put the gun down and picked it up at least three times.

It is quite the most remarkable film I have seen in years and I enjoyed every minute of it.

You haven't touched on the creatures ability to change scale....and the words 'seminal masterpiece' are missing from your review.

I don't think any of us wish to spoil the experience by giving too much away.

We watched Megashark versus Giant Octopus over the summer. It has Debbie Gibson in it. It wasn't as good as it looked...
