Develop, sustain, utilise.

It sounds like a management course mantra, doesn't it?

Most people who have a clerical or administrative career have been on these courses - the sort that cost your employer a small fortune and have no appreciable real world application, but look good on a curriculum vitae (or, in North America, a resumé). Maybe it is, or maybe it isn't. But it does prove that spam is not random. There is a masterplan there somewhere; spam is not randomly generated as we might have thought.

Six months ago, a good 60% of the spam I received offered me, with variations in cost and promise, an additional three inches on my willy should I wish to avail myself of the services offered. Thus, we have development.

Three months ago, spammers clearly assumed that they had made all the money they were likely to from men who needed or thought they needed a bigger willy. Imperceptibly, the spam changed and out went the offers of penile growth and in came the offers of cheap and discreet viagra. You now have a bigger willy, but can you keep it up?

Viagra. Sustain that new improved willy.

And now, these adverts are slowly giving way to something else. Now the spam, in greater numbers than ever before, offers one the opportunity to download video snippets of Paris Hilton in ever more compromising positions with her beau.

Yes, they know their target group. You are sitting in front of your computer with a bigger, more tumescent willy. Thanks to the viagra you can't hide it (maybe you can decorate it, but it ain't going anywhere). So, porn. Utilisation.

A brilliant strategy to prey on the lonely batchelor - especially those of fragile ego or buck teeth - who spends more time than is strictly healthy in front of the computer.

Develop, sustain, utilise.

I predict stain removal products in the next wave of spam.
