Day Off

I decided to take today as annual leave. Two reasons, I think: firstly I fancied a long weekend and secondly there was incipient jealousy because [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle has had a succession of Mondays off when I had to stroll into work. The tables are turned today. Hah!

So far I have played some Warcrack and watched a couple of things on BBC iPlayer. I may play some more shortly. I may not. The afternoon is my lobster.

Over the weekend we did things domestic. Saturday involved wandering off to IKEA in Edmonton to look at sofas and sofa beds. This turned out to be more of a trek than you might imagine by public transport, despite being a round trip of about 19 miles. We discovered the sofa bed we liked and decided that we would buy one as soon as we could decide on the colour. That all went wrong on Sunday when we realised that for reasons that are probably completely random, the same basic model varies by hundreds of pounds depending upon the fabric colour - and we're only talking whites, reds, blues. Nothing fancy. This put us into a bit of a bate and we fell back on the possibility of buying a Chesterfield sofa bed from another supplier entirely. Further research suggested that only a midget would find the Chesterfield comfortable; the IKEA versions vary according to mattress and now we are thinking 'fek it' and just getting a sofa rather than a sofa bed. With a bit of jiggling we can get a couple of guests who don't mind each other's body odour on the futon, once we have rearranged the study.

And for the same money as a sofa bed, we could get a comfy sofa AND a new HD flat screen telly.

Sunday was a trip to Homebase to buy more plants for the garden, which is now beginning to look suitably Spring-like and some paint samplers for the living room. I expect that come the Easter break, there will be some serious decorating going on in the living room. Of course, much depends upon the cat. Decorating is going to be much more problematic with the little brute around, but with luck we will only have him for another three or four weeks (though I am not counting my chickens on that one). I shall miss him when he's gone as he is a sweet natured little moggy, but frankly, the compensation of getting our house back will more than compensate. It will be a major task just cleaning and generally restoring the conservatory for human use.

Speaking of the furry little fiend, he is rather more of a nuisance when there's only one of us here with him. Already today he has spent time in solitary confinement for misbehaviour. He is out now and I am in his bad books because I will not allow him to roam around in the kitchen, bathroom or bedroom. They are all off limits to a solo cat. He wanders past me occasionally, looks at me and mews in disgust and wanders off again.

More gaming now, I think.

I came to a similar conclusion re: sofabed. I favour providing airbeds as guest bed options in preference. Plus in the spare room there's now a single bed set up to be comfy for lounging on like a sofa.
There's also the durability to think of - sofabeds are much more prone to falling to bits than your average sofa, as a string of rented houses has shown me.
Sounds like Jasper is trying to stamp his authority on you both - individually, divide-and-conquer style. I've discovered HRH has stopped protesting as much about things she's not allowed since she discovered the meowing was just getting ignored.

Just carefully avoid IKEA at any costs! I say that, because of being a. from Sweden b. owning lots of ikean stuff. There are other sofas on which at least one person can sleep for a night or two. Or even a cat, if at hand. Stretched out they are large predators and anyway anything in a house they happen to live in belongs to them and not to the humans who are only allowed to live there on Cat Conditions. But, you know that already so I understand your wanting your house back.
