I see from today's Times that this gentleman is 70 today:

I was flicking channels the other day, and got onto Fort Boyard. The gentleman in question has now replaced the Professor - which I wonder if this a good career move or he was just bored.

I must say though that they should bring back Melinda Messenger and Leslie Grantham.....

He's seventy?! crimmeny didn't realise he was quite as old as he mustave bin when he was the Doctor, although maybe it was a paternal air that made him so appealing when one was young.
Peter Davidson had an altogether different appeal :)

good choice for picture.

do you think that now all the steam has gone out of the star trek "franchise", and lucas' new star wars movies have not been as well-received as hoped, that hollywood will next rape the Doctor for pressing like so many ripe olives for tv shows and movies?

or is it too inherently british or odd for that? (not that i would associate the two, but the series is both.)

I believe that all licencing agreements for movies and such are in abeyance for the time being. The BBC have announced a new series of Dr Who for 2005, although I'll believe it when I'm actually hiding behind the sofa with the new broadcast on the telly.

13 x 45 minute episodes, apparently. We'll see.

And to answer your question, I don't think Hollywood would "get" Dr Who. And I include the British movie establishment in that.
