I tell you, the Ostrich Biltong is much nicer than Beef Biltong.

Not as stringy for a start.

Mind you, it's not stopping me from scarfing the beef biltong like it's going out of fashion.

God, it's spicy. I wonder how spicy it would be if the old tongue wasn't deadened with nicotine...?

UPDATE

No, really. It's VERY SPICY...

Where've you been getting it from? Once in a while I fancy a nice bit of biltong... only problem is, most of the stuff you can get over here doesn't count as "nice" ;)

I'm told by "Yip!" - a Sith African colleague - that John Taylor's at the end of my road does very good biltong and boerrewors, but that's probably not much use unless you're in the Midlands.

[livejournal.com profile] romney acquired it for me from an establishment in the London Bridge area.

I shall make enquiries on your behalf.

There is a delicatessan/Sausage shop in the shopping arcade beneath London Bridge station. They sell various biltobgs there, very nice.

That may well be the place. Unfortunately it's the far end of the Circle Line from me and I rarely go that way - at least at times when shops are likely to be open.

Likewise. I vaguely recall seeing a south african deli in putney as well if its any help.

And I know there is a stall in watford market that sells a variety of biltongs.

If it was the two little packets I gave him AGES ago, then they actually came from the corner shop opposite Clapham North station. Don't buy an outwardly-similar material from the shaded gentleman lurking outside the tube station itself - it is neither biltong nor the substance he claims.

Otherwise the place 'neath London Bridge Station is fine (and not TOO far from "The Royal Oak" for those of us with legs)

The last batch I fed Caddy with came from Selfridges food hall and was really rather good.

Will try the Putney / Watford versions next time I'm that lost.
