Round up

I’ve been meaning to write a proper entry all week, but somehow, snoozing, the odd bit of gardening, sight-seeing and playing Warcrack seemed to me to be a better use of my time. Nothing personal, you understand, but that’s how it is.

In many ways the opening paragraph pretty much sums up last week. To cut a long story short, we cracked on with starting and levelling a couple of new WoW characters and in between times did some gardening and a lot of lounging around. It was very restful.

On Wednesday we made the journey into town and did a bit of sight-seeing, including going up the London Eye. That was fun, but possibly not quite worth the admission fee – particularly as the ride itself lasted only about a quarter of an hour after a 45 minute queuing experience. Still, it was a very nice day and I got a lot of photos, which I have yet to download from my camera. I’m not sure how many of them will be worth posting up for your delectation though as the downside of the egg-shaped gondolas on the Eye is that there is always something reflecting back at you and this is quite apparent on what would have otherwise been quite splendid panoramic views. We’ll see in due course and I shall post a couple, but not too many up in a later post.

That evening we stopped off at Forbidden Planet to attend Messrs [livejournal.com profile] mrtonylee and Dan Boultwood’s signing of Hope Falls before retiring for a few pints with them at the Phoenix Artists’ Club on Charing Cross Road.

We crawled back home a little later than planned and next day Furtle’s folks turned up for a brief visit during which we fixed a few problems with loose patio slates and re-potted the climbing plant out front that had had its root system compromised by the recent crash outside the house, which had broken the pot that housed it. I think we’re sorted now, but you can never quite tell.

What else?

Oh yes. Saturday evening we nipped around next door to drink wine and chat outside around a bonfire. This was very relaxing, though we did have to run our clothes through the washing machine the next day to get rid of the ingrained wood smoke!

We rounded Sunday off with a visit from [livejournal.com profile] mrtonylee and [livejournal.com profile] belle_fille1982, during which we consumed pizza and watched Jaws since the latter had not seen it, and followed that with the inestimable Mega Shark v Giant Octopus.

Our special effects are in n o way inferior to those in the movie...

Classic.

*Commence geeky nerdy nasal tone*

So what scale exactly are they in? I think it's fair to say that they are not life size...

Let's put it this way, in the movie the shark both leapt out of the sea and ate an airliner, but later on, when it bot peckish again, it bit the central section of the Golden Gate Bridge clean through. It also swam at 500 knots.

All plausible enough, I think you'll agree.

I think it must have been suffering from anaemia in that case, definitely lacking iron in the diet!

The truly sinister aspect of that shark is how much it bothers Dr Furtle, and how much you glory in the fact, you bad lad.

Sounds a good sharkey gardening week to me. I suppose that´s what in-laws are for: to come and fix things. Me, I have to ask male friends and bribe them with beer.
Sharks are just like me: they´d eat almost anything, only noticing afterwards that things like tyres are highly overrated as food even in these days of EHEC-hysteria, because when one says: "à point" to the waiter he still mistakes one for being a tourist wherefore one´s meat resembles something to walk on more than a bite to eat. One is expected to like it that way since a foreigner. And I only just coloured my hair!
