Okay, I’ve had enough of summer, thanks very much. It can go now. I’d like an intermediate season that is not autumn or winter, but which is substantially cooler than the recent weather and with a little more rain, but rather less humidity.

I like the long summer nights, but I do not like the insects. I would accept a compromise at which it got dark around 9.30, the insects were stoutly vegetarian, with a preference for eating weeds, not cultivated plants, rain was gentle, cool and plentiful, but mainly after 9.30pm, when it’s gone dark.

At night, the temperature should be a few degrees lower still, to facilitate proper sleep – particularly curled up under a duvet.

Surely it’s not too much to ask?

In the meantime and apropos nothing, here is the picture of the crested black macaque who stole a photographer’s camera and took a self portrait. Presented here simply because it makes me smile:



I note that it’s actually better balanced and composed than many a picture taken by human beans.

He's on the friendsreunited site, posing with a firearm, and says so. I posted the photo here a few years ago. The knowledgeable Mr Wren pointed out that the rifle's magazine is missing, so NG looks as lame as he was 30 years ago.

I recall that he lad less forehead than the monkey in my picture.
