Lawks, crumbs and ai caramba. I don’t like this weather, not one little bit.

When we came into work, it was cool and humid, but warming. It was hot and humid on the tube and now, although I am in an air conditioned office, I am warm, though not sticky. Outside the sun is shining and temperatures are forecast to get into the upper twenties at least until Thursday. I’m never sure what the upper twenties are in proper heat, but I am pretty sure it’s a miserable number. Actually, as I think on it, last time I grumbled about this sort of thing, I seem to recall that [profile] ladkyis pointed out that 28°c equates to 82°f, which seems about right, though my ability to differentiate temperatures between say, 70°f and 95°f is noticeable. They are all uniformly too hot. Anything above that and it enters the single temperature range of Hell, which sees Our Hero veer from total lethargy to hair trigger irritability.

Everyone knows that August is not the time to be in London and here we are with an entire month of it to come. At least there’s a bank holiday available at the end of it, but even that sees the Notting Hill Festival, which despite being way, way across the other side of the city, tends to mean that the West End gets filled with people taking a breather from it and so it’s just too busy to make it worth leaving the immediate area around the house. In years gone by, I would vacate the capital during the festival.

Still, we have a fortnight off, soon, commencing with a long weekend in Edinburgh. I’m told it’s a beautiful city, if small and full of Scots.

If you're going to edinburgh in a couple of weeks, then you'll be there during the festival and that will truly be a crowded city.

You could avoid the city. You know - go to the beach, go walking in the nearby hills.

The walk across the park this morning was already sufficiently muggy (and that was 8am) that I removed my hat in the hope of some sort of breeze. Not looking forward to the walk back up the hill.

Don't panic - it will soon be the bleak midwinter.

I quite enjoyed Edinburg it's got lots of exciting raised roads and randow alleys with steep stairs. That said if you are there at the time of the Festival you are guaranteed to get the 'look' from a certain type of Scot who clearly has a problem with having lots of English people invade their city and give them huge wodges of cash thanks to the jacked up 'bleed the tourist' prices.

"Wodge", yet another quintessentially British word that one doesn't hear in the colonies. I am frantically holding on to what little of my linguistic heritage I have left.

Edinburgh is a lovely place, even if it is the only city I have ever visited where I have ran into a bloody Orange Order parade. OK, it was about ten people rather than the thousands you get in Belfast but still.

Edinburgh is a beautiful city. Be prepared for a lot and I mean a lot of walking. Oh did I ever mention the graveyards of Edinburgh? All the Scots we met were perfectly nice but that may have had something to do the first time being with two Americans. Sure you will have a wonderful time and if you have any spare time(on the way there or back) you are both always welcome in sunny (ahem) Stockton.
