ive not been taking much notice of the news this weekend, being away and all, but I see there are reports that Tripoli may have fallen to the rebel forces and it's only a matter of time before Gadaffi is ousted.

So what next? Where is the credible, organised opposition that will rule the country if Gadaffi does indeed go? Has the UN set itself up for a "catastrophic victory" in which it achieves its immediate objective by making things infinitely worse?

The trouble with the job of "Despot for life" is that it may turn out to be for a shorter time than you had intended.

However I guess you could apply for the job in parallel with reapplying for your current one?

I am still dead against interfering with other countries so find the UN a bit of a nanny. I suppose there are reasons as there must have been reasons for going into Afganistan. Beats me though.
I wonder how we would feel if the germans, say, were to come pushing in here telling us how to run our country..........oh, they already tried that didn't they? adn we sorted it out and got them out of France and belgium and Italy and north africa and... OK so I need to think more.
