Judging by the weather the tail end of last week’s hurricane has finally crossed the Atlantic and is squalling over here. A sure sign that autumn is on its way, if not yet quite here.

And so we enter that period of random coats and jackets, where whatever choice we make, it’s the wrong one. My wrong choice today was to wear my reefer jacket instead of the chino jacket I’ve been sporting over the summer; too hot by half. The chino wouldn’t have stood up to the weather and I desperately need to acquire a new tweed jacket for the autumn/winter. My current tweed jacket would be fine had my rucksack not worn a hole in the back at about the level of my right kidney. Apart from that it’s fine, which is rather annoying.

Still, overall, it’s cooler, which is fine by me.

When I first came to Hamburg, this woman on a bus I had just entered being rather wet from a surprise shower, told me to always take both of two essentials: sunglasses and foldable umbrella, whatever the weather. Same goes, I think, for jackets. The place I now live in, lives up to hamburgian standards, easily. Almost +40°C of bright sunshine one day and 15°C with cold winds, next.
As far as I know,
any good tweed jacket should be fairly repairable. Seems a waste to get rid of such a thing because of one single obstacle but then, I haven´t seen that hole, of course. You could put a highly original leather elbow patch on your back, couldn´t you?
Maybe not...
I found a perfectly fine tweed jacket that seemed as if made to measure for me personally on the market in early spring. Last year´s or an even earlier model, I suppose, but since not that fashionable anyway I gladly bought it for five eurones and will be glad to put it on as it gets cooler. What I need, are good shoes I can really walk in. I just managed to scramble up my ankle once more in my life by letting it touch ground.
