So, our hifi has died. At least the CD Player has. Unfortunately that means the cassette player (never used) and the DAB radio (rarely used) are now redundant, it being an all in one unit and all. The speakers are salvagable.

Any recommendations for a cheap but dependably robust hifi system, must have CD player, would be nice to have iPod dock?

Help me, lazyweb. You're my only chance.

If you can't find one with an iPod dock you like there's always this - http://www.firebox.com/product/4581/Trumstand although it might be a bit expensive, and it might only actually fit an iPhone...

That's an amazing looking bit of kit... in a horribly expensive kinda way :)

How hi and how fi ?

More than a cheap PC with an average soundcard?

Failing that, get a 20 quid DVD player from Tesco and plug it into the AUX of your current system ?

Sony have a good range I think. Look for decent speakers or reuse the ones you have if not indecent.
