Slooooooooow
Thursday, September 29th, 2011 03:38 pmI am caught in the time warp that is created by under resourced IT.
Outlook was first to go; all day it’s had to think to itself before opening mail, this afternoon it simply produced the egg timer of eternity. It slowly took IE8 with it and then Word. So I rebooted the computer, I mean what else could I do? By reboot I mean that I tried to turn it off the proper way, but that took so long I soft crashed it.
Of course on reboot, Outlook complained that it hadn’t been closed down properly and sulked. It insisted upon checking the mailbox for errors. For twenty minutes before dishing out more egg timer. I crashed the application and tried to reopen it. That brought it up in safe mode. The only difference between that and the usual mode was the lack of preview pane. Everything else was there, including the bloody egg timer. I think it’s working again now, sort of, but that’s a half hour gone west.
I rather suspect that a bit more memory would sort it all out at least enough to stop the machine grinding to a halt three or four times a day.
