So this morning on my way into work, I stopped off in Sainsbury’s to pick up a jar of instant coffee to keep me going in the office. I have to confess that with excitement levels being where they are, I am temporarily at least, back on the caffeinated stuff. The lack of caffeine had me dozing more than once in the dog hours between 2.30 and 4.00pm. This, I feel, is probably unwise in the current climate.

Anyway, I nipped in to buy more instant coffee as I said. Now, it may be that I am being particularly dim, but I honestly don’t see what they are driving at with this:

Apparently it used to be £1.91 per 100g and following a price cut it is now er… £1.91 per 100g. I really don’t get it; I accept that I am quite capable of being overly dim at times, but…

I have noticed recently that instead of displaying the price for the item, some shops have started quoting the price per 100g instead of the actual price (though they could and often do, do both), so the unwary might pick up a jar thinking £1.91 is all they are expected to pay. In fact the jars contain 200g, so when they get to the till that’s £3.82 to you.

Which I think is a bit naughty

You have only a couple of dog hours. Mine last from about nine in the a.m. to one squirty, take a break for lunch and then all cruddy afternoon. On days like today, when I have had two nights of insufficient sleep, they last from the moment I come in and slump at my desk.

Totally agree. I do regularly point this out to staff in store.

Multipack 'deals' are also where they try to pull a swifty, quite often the deal works out more expensive than buying smaller packs. I hate that they make me waste time doing maths when I just want toilet roll to keep the masses poo free, but I'll be damned if I'll let them get one over on me. I mean you TESCO! *shakes fist*

We saw one in Tesco where there were two "reductions" the second left the goods more expensive than they had started out!

When we told a manager in store, we were told that they could not do anything about it as that is what the system had churned out (and it was above their paygrade to resolve it).

I like how the containers containing whatever is on offer inside them that wasn´t there last time but is this time say: "Rich" beneath your coffee offer.

One of the recent ones I saw was in the Co'op. Frozen chicken pies were labelled as "£2.00 a box or 2 boxes for £4.00!"
