I don't know if it is actually true, but Jimmy Savile always claimed to have invented the discotheque - or at least the twin deck record player that became the staple of analogue era discos.

That aside, I always thought there was something fundamentally odd about Jim. No-one in their right mind could be that over the top ALL the time, but whatever the truth of it, there's no denying his charity work and other good deeds. The number of people who raised in excess of £40million for good causes can't be that great, so rest in Peace, Jim, you mad old loon. I doubt we'll see your like again.

Sir Jimmy Savile OBE, KCSG
31 October 1926 - 29 October 2011

WHAT??? He's dead? He's one of those people who seem to be eternal. Like Iggy Pop or Lionel Blair.

There can only be one...

You have an immortal list too ! Mine was always The queen mum, James Brown and Castro but two of those have gone and one is on the edge !

Lionel Blair and Iggy Pop are good calls though.

Jimmy: mad as a sack of badgers but I was always glad he was around.
