The headline blaring out of the BBC News Website as I type is: “Rupert Murdoch 'not a fit person' to lead News Corp – MPs" .

Now, I don’t feel particularly disposed to argue that assessment, though I doubt he’s quite the monster he’s been painted these past few decades. He’s managed to ruffle many a feather since the public became aware of him and News International, since the days when he bought out the Sun Newspaper way back when.

I think what gets me most about the headline is simply that of all people in society, Members of Parliament as a group are probably the least qualified to get on their high horses and condemn someone else. I mean really, I know it’s gone quiet, but surely no-one’s forgotten the expenses fiddles these honourable ladies and gentlemen indulged in until the news found its way into the media? Surely no-one’s forgotten the general level of sleaze and incompetence that pervades the place?

There is more than the usual whiff of hypocrisy floating out of the Palace of Westminster today.

I expect hypocrisy from MPs, so if they want to channel it at Rupert Murdoch, that's okay with me. I am sure he is quite the monster he is painted as and some other types of monster as well. He is one of the most evil men in media, at least. I recommend loathing Murdoch and MPs at the same time, there's no need to choose!

I agree that you don't have to like either of them.

I just find the hypocrisy breath taking, especially when the MPs are in a position that demands a higher standard.

I think if Berlusconi criticised him, the hypocrisy would rankle, but otherwise I don't mind at all. :-)

But then I really hate Murdoch. I even did a degree in Why Murdoch is a Total Sod-Bucket.

Considering the number of new MPs at the last election, aside from Tom Watson, I'm not sure how many of this committee were there from the outset. Mind you, I guess this is the chance for various politicians to turn around and finally get their own back on Murdoch and his playing Warwick.
