Monday morning, and my first letter from a disgruntled member of the public in quite some time.

The letter is one of those delightful semiliterate jobs typed painstakingly on a cranky old typewriter ENTIRELY IN CAPITALS BECAUSE THAT MAKES EVERYTHING MUCH CLEARER.

It is pretty clear that correspondence section have sent it to me because the word 'rent' is used a number of times, and they don't know what to do with it. Well, neither do I. This poor old bloke has complained about everything from garage rents, traffic density, buying his council house, the use of council receipts, war pensions and Steven Byers MP.

He is trying to wield the power of the grey vote. It now appears that I have to try and find the correct type of clerical hair dye to soothe his ancient brow.

Are you the ODPM at Marsham St? If so, then I hate to tell you, but my local authority is urging me to write to you in protest against the hyoooge rise in Council Tax that they have been forced (sob sob) to charge me.

Now obviously I wouldn't even know about this if I still owned a cat, but I'm afraid you're due for a flood of tedious correspondence from people who pay attention to the illiterate twaddle sent out by the morons at County Hall.

Nice to know your local authority is so well informed. Demolition on the Marsham Street building was completed last year after being empty for five years.

Happily for me, Council Tax is not my area; I have enough fun with council rents.

I hazard that a spot of red hair dye and a short skirt would shut him up, possibly permanently...

i don't bother writing letters of complaint until i'm REALLY upset/ pissed off. that way i know that my "polite" request will have the perfect amount of resentment and sarcasm neccessary to satisfy my own peculiar needs.
