Oh, mes Amis, I fear that the social media are not the all-knowing resource I had hoped they may be.

I have wanted, nay, coveted a tablet computer – oh, cut to the chase: I have fancied an iPad for ages. Furtle bought one a couple of months ago and it’s great, but it’s her iPad and although I get to use it from time to time, it’s not personalised to my taste. Anyway, intellectually I know there are other iPadalikes out there, but we all know they’re just not as sexy as an iPad.

I have gallantly put this covetousness on the back burner because, frankly, I am still paying for the 1990s on my credit cards and my plan was to treat myself when the card debts drop to zero. This is happening slowly, but I’m not there yet. In the meantime, technology moves apace and Amazon finally in the UK, release the Kindle Fire HD, which whilst clearly smaller than the iPad and clones is also much cheaper. It may not do all that they do, but it seems to do pretty much what I want it to and Amazon have cleverly gone in the opposite direction of Apple who have made their iPad Mini eye-wateringly expensive. So there it is, an affordable £159. Not too bad, but just enough for me to conform my design of staying tabletless for the time being.

Except fo today, for one day only, Amazon rot their non-tax paying socks, are selling it for £99.

And do the social media advise me? They do not.

My Dad's got one and loves it.

If you have the money available then get it. You have seven days from receipt to return it if you change your mind - you know, due to distance selling legislation. Return it in five to be on the safe side and you'll at least know whether you like it or not.

It's £109 if you want the one that won't spam you with "Special offers" i.e. adds.

Still a decent price. Tempting...

Have purchased a Joy Tab android for Mum and Dad for Christmas -more specifically for Dad only having use of one arm. It was a deal from either livingsocial or kgbdeals. Instead of £169 it was around £70 and seems to do everything. Also Nick has purchased a BoVida one for me for Christmas (again through one of the above offers). It is an android bundle including USB keyboard and various other accessories and instead of £228 it was around the £75 mark. Both of them have decent specs and seem to do everything I want of them. Net, video, email, angry birds, bad piggies. Ok probably not as sexy as an iPad but seems to have pretty much the same functions. xx

If you're paying off credit cards, I reccommend transferring the balance to a lower interest personal loan. Gives you a better chance of ever paying it!

What about an iPad mini? I've been looking at them - they're just as sexy, but cheaper and a slim chance of one being in a sale after Christmas?
