Well, here's a thing.

A friend of mine, Matty, has recently acquired Buffy Season 3 on DVD from the US where it costs about half the price compared to the UK. So far so good (oh, and swine, by the way).

However, there appears to be something funky about one of the discs in that the episode Doppelgangerland pixelates like like a kaleidoscope on acid. We couldn't work out if it was the disc or his player.

Well, I can confirm having tried it at home that it's the disc. Despite a good clean with anti-static gubbins, it still pixelates like a good 'un. Not exactly the same pattern, so part dirt, part damage. Or maybe another scrub with the wire brush will fix it...

Anyway, despite the obvious warning about importing DVDs and then wondering what to do when they need to be returned, that's not what I started writing about.

The thing is (and I realise that I can appreciate this because it's someone else's disc), that the pixelation effect is actually quite beautiful and enthralling in its own right - especially where the scene changes and people appear to "build out" of each other and walk away before re-pixellating.

Best appreciated whilst taking tea with a white rabbit, methinks, but it's a way of appreciating something even when it's faulty.

On the other hand, it buggers up the fun of watching Willow dressed in dominatrix fetish gear. (Hmm... probably revealed too much information there...).

Still, there we are.
