I had to bully my boss to go home yesterday. She has a very bad cold and by 4pm she sounded like a frog gargling hot gravel.

Unsurprisingly she's not in today.

Neither are another five people, and their desks are too close to mine for comfort. Normally I'd not be too bothered, it's only a cold - albeit a heavy one, after all. But I really, really don't want to catch it as I have NWO STUFF to do from tomorrow onwards, and a headachey cold will instill a sense of humour failure.

Mebbe I should get a face mask....

Or then again I could just overreact.

So your boss is absent, and your colleagues are absent? Ooooh! Lots of possibilities here!

Perhaps it's the staff outing and they forgot to tell you, or didn't want you along;

Perhaps they all got promotions to the floor above. Or, if you're on the top floor, there may have been a Rapture, and again you've not been included.

Aliens! They are now abductees in orbit, being probed around Uranus. When they return, look out for symptoms that they are now Pod-People.

Of course, when they return, how will they know YOU haven't been replaced by a Pod Person in the meanwhile?
