Primarily electrickery.

Just had a 30 minute power cut which I believe, took out most of South London. Happily for me, other than having to root around for candles (it's amazingly dark for the time of day - leaden rain clouds will do that) and more recently having to wait while the PC scan-disked and all that, nothing more than petty annoyance.

It seems, however, that the power outage mangled the Tube and train system.

Glad am I that I left work early. A load of poor buggers will have been caught crowded in the Tube system during the rush hour in pitch blackness for half an hour.

Civilisation, eh?

The thickness of a fuse.

That's one of the reasons i've taken to carrying one of those little LED torches on my belt - it's light enough to carry everywhere without really noticing, easy to find in an emergency and powerful enough to see by if the lights go out...

Yes, my watch lights up well enough to see by, gotta keep pressing it but it is quite powerful...Just thinking ifn a 'situation' did happen on London underground 'Safety/cyber goths would prolly be ok. Lots of dayglow and LED's plus goggles and those rubber backpacks could prolly double as a makeshift gas mask...of course in the stampede they would fall off their big shoes but hey...
