General plea

A couple of times recently people have made either very image-intensive posts, or included items which are not 100% office friendly.

I'd never tell or even try to tell you what you can or cannot post up on LJ; there's too much of the libertarian battling away with the puritan side of my soul to make me even think about the possibility. And anyway, if I didn't generally like the stuff people post, they wouldn't be on my friends list.

But.

I would appreciate it if people could hide some of the more graphic intensive entries behind LJ cuts, please.

Pretty please.

I ask simply because I like to read my LJ at work and what I am happy reading and what colleagues are happy having on a computer screen in the office doesn't always dovetail with the precision I'd like. Betraying my roots as a child of the 60's I'd just like to remind you that there are a lot of squares out there.

Man.

Thanks very much, and please don't be rude in my comments box ;-)

Added later: I've just noticed that one of the posts has disappeared entirely. If that is on account of this post, although I hope it wasn't, please don't misunderstand; I'm not worried about or offended by the content, I'm just concerned about people in the office who may be.

Hence the request for LJ-cuts.

and is this mainly nudity, or are you referring to other stuff too, I do sometimes post nudity and don't like putting it behind lj-cuts, but I can filter you out if you want.. :)

Don't filter! Don't filter! I don't want to be filtered out of anything! (And not just because of potential nudity, ahem).

But being serious for a moment.

As I said, I wouldn't have people on my friends list if I didn't want to read what they write/post, it's just that working in an open plan office, I have to be aware that in movie terms, I have to keep what's on my screen at about certificate 15 level or lower.

I guess I'll just have to lump it or miss out. And I don't want to miss out.

Much of the fun of LJ is reading other people's views and opinions, and appreciating their technical or artistic skills, some of which might never be apparent in a face to face environment.

If somebody posts something I think might not be appropriate screen matter for the office, I shall just have hit the back button quickly, and read it later.

I rather wish I hadn't said anything, and I'm now a little worried that I might have given someone the wrong impression entirely...

:) no worries! I won't filter you .. I do understand that work colleagues can be difficult when it comes to nudity .. but well, yeh, I don't always like putting it behind a cut, and in a way feel we 'shouldn't' have to.. but no worries, I understood how it was meant! :)

yeah ... that KOMPRESSOR quiz entry was a bit much, wasn't it?

you should take a look at KOMPRESSORPOWER journal and check out what he did about that obscenely large pic.

when i do post pictures, i try to keep them under 500 pixels wide at the request of [livejournal.com profile] badger.

have i had any other pictures which were excessively obnoxious?

if you like to keep your work browsing texty, you may want to check out Lynx: http://lynx.browser.org/

Believe it or not, it wasn't the Kompressor stuff I was worried about (see above)!

And at least in work, image size isn't the problem, one of the few benefits of the office is the access to a broadband connection I don't have at home - of course the full benefit of broadband there is lost by the counterbalancingt and overly scrupulous firewall.
