The cause of and answer to, most of man's problems.
All in all a truly busy day. We have a complicated subsidy system and every year Ministers insist on refining it. That means that we publish consultation papers, suffer the flak they generate, revise and re-publish. So when we come to settle the subsidy system before Christmas, we are running short on time. This year we have excelled ourselves.
And I thought last year was something special.
The consultation finished today at 18.00. I recorded and collated the responses - lackey was off having a would-be Laurence Olivier recreate Marathon Man with his mouth: no help there. Boss analysed. Tomorrow, we present our case to the Minister. The day after we dispense largesse of about £3,500,000,000 (no, honestly) to ungrateful bastard local housing authorities around England. Unless the Minister gets cold feet. At which point the Christmas holidays are effectively cancelled.
Still, tonight I met DT, Miss Clark, Henry and "Pat At" all sans LJ and drank booze and nattered.
I am now drinking milk and scoffing choccy hobnobs between smokes and while listening to REM.
I think I shall sleep tonight.
HOWEVER.
If the Minister loses his bottle there will be a big news story tomorrow night and this will be my last entry for oh, say, 25 years to life.
