I am delaying my birthday bash (if you can call it a bash)a week or so, so that I can email out a few people to see if they want to come along, seeing that only the ever-lovely [livejournal.com profile] caffeine_fairy and [livejournal.com profile] bibliogirl responded to the post.

It will probably be at the Café Sol since I have to report with great sadness, the passing of the Oasis which has now transformed into an establishment under the dubious name of Rinky-Dink (we think...)which has far too many little cuboid pouffé chairs (there must be a proper name for them, but it eludes me)arranged around back-breakingly low tables. The decorative motif is that shade of mauve that people call pink and makes the rest of us wonder if we've gone colour blind.

There appears to be a cocktail bar at the rear, but no sign of limitless crispy duck which was the entire raison d'etre of the Oasis.

The bottom has fallen out of the Clapham crispy duck market since DT moved north of the river, I fear.

Ah ... here in Ilford we mourn the passing of Dragon City, the best lemon chicken and crispy duck I've ever had.

I would love to come celebrate your birthday with you ( I'd have to bring the other half and he can be socially inept etcetc so I would have to apologise in advance but I make up for it! :D )I'm not sure when it is or where it is but if you can face me possibly being there with my socially inept Darrell then that would be nice. I couldn't have done the 4th but is that the one you mean you have moved to the folowing week?

Sorry I didn't reply before; I didn't see it! OOooops! I had the blasted lotriconscommunity on my friends list and they post every minute I think. It swamped other posts and now I've removed them I can see again!

Sorry for long rambly reply. I'll stop now. I don't do this socially. Really. No really I don't.

You will both be very welcome. ;-D

I am thinking about moving it to 9 February since that's a Monday and they are usually quiet. I'll be emailing round a bunch of people to see what interest (if any) there might be.

The Café Sol is half way down Clapham High Street, between Clapham North and Clapham Common Tubes stations. Probably a bit nearer to Clapham North now I think on it.

If you do fancy coming along on Monday, here is a cut and paste from the email I sent out to those people for whom I have email addresses... ;-)

It seems that we have a small but intrepid band for Monday evening, so I reckon that we should start meeting up around 7.30 on the Landor, ready to make an assault on the Cafe Sol at about 8.15 (not much later as some people have a distance to travel and we don't want to rush).

For those who aren't sure where to go to get to the Cafe Sol - Tube to Clapham North, exit tube, take sharp LEFT down into the High Street and walk down under the bridge. Go to the crossing opposite the Railway Pub and cross. Carry on down the High Street and Cafe Sol is 3 or 4 minutes mooch down there on the right hand side.

If you are likely to get to Clapham in time to go to the Landor, again, Clapham North, but turn right and cross Bedford Road. Walk up Landor Road (between Bedford Arms and the corner grocers). The Landor is about 5 minutes walk up there, on the right.

You might well be more likely to get [livejournal.com profile] rotwang by delaying it a week, his sojourn to Halifax in that time frame is not yet set in stone.

Yes, the Rinky-Dink does look decidedly trendoid. Sigh.

I'll happily trot along to any venue in order to offer birthday insults, spill beer on people, fall asleep at the table and generally behave as normal for me.

Incidentally, I understand that as a result of DT's move north, Clapham is now an extra inch above sea-level.

Happy birthday for the 4th, whatever you decide.
