My eyes, my eyes
Friday, February 13th, 2004 02:21 amTonight I went around chez
romney to catch up on downloaded Angel and Tru Calling - the latter of which I am grudgingly getting to like despite earlier reservations.
We somehow managed to miss the download last week, of Angel episode 100, but some kind soul had posted it up again, so
romney dragged both that and episode 101 down and dropped them neatly onto CD for our viewing pleasure.
It was good to see Cordy back, if only for one episode, and it seems that the story arc for the first half of the season is now over - although there remains the little problem of the Senior Partners' "Kill Angel as a last resort device" and I doubt that we've seen the last of Eve, or indeed, Lindsey - they're both too good as villains to let go permanently. Nice to see the little clip of Doyle's home made video ad from season 1 which, given that Charisma Carpenter was bowing out in this episode brought the whole thing full circle.
And although I knew that Cordelia was being written out permanently since Charisma Carpenter wants to spend time raising her son, I didn't expect the ending. A true case of episodal goitre* though not as bad as the end of Buffy season 2.
Such a big softie, ain't I?
* Episodal goitre, for the uninformed, is what men get in their throat during sad and emotional episodes on telly which make the girlies weep buckets. Real Men (tm) do not do this; we are too big and tough. However, episodal goitre, which comes on spontaneously, causes similar irritation of the eyes and throat. It is best combatted theough vocal chord exercises such as coughing and saying, "my, but it's got smoky in here" or "that fekkin' cherry tree is screwing my sinuses again"

Date: 2004-02-13 11:21 am (UTC)Downloads are 400MB+ for a VCD and 800MB+ for a SVCD, so it's hours even with my 512K ADSL.
Then a bunch of tools to get at the MPEG which one can watch on a PC or use other tools to turn it into a [S]VCD that will play on a DVD player. All the hard work is really done by the Kind People who cap(ture) it and convert it into a watchable MPEG, usually removing adverts. Quality is usually as least as good as video and often as good as DVD.
Email me if you wish for boring details of web links for the tools and some hints and tips, but the place to start is the Most Excellent Timdoc dowloading guide.
Happy viewing
