BBC2 are showing an excellent documentary on Sam Cooke right now.

Now there's a man who could hold a tune; back in the days when R&B meant Rhythm and Blues, not Rump and Booty as it seems to be nowadays.

Quite apart from being an excellent singer/songwriter, he was also a pioneer in race relations, being among the first black performers to refuse to sing to segregated audiences in the deep south in the late '50s and early '60s.

If'n you're not familiar with Sam Cooke's R&B and soul songs, check out any one of a number of compilations available. Good stuff.

And despite what is often said "A Change is Gonna Come" *is* better than the similarly themed "What's Going On".

Seinfeld, and now old Soul/R&B, I didn't know we had so many common interests. What time is the documentary on ?

Er.. it was last night at 11.30.

I daresay they will repeat it, though.

Oh, it's not a muti-part one then, just a one-off ? Damn! I'll check BBC4 they often have repeats of stuff.

But I like Rump & Booty

(Can't stand the new RnB music though, Hip-Hop is much more cutting edge)
