I have decided, in my wisdom, and without reference to anyone else, that Su Doku should be banned. It is addictive, frustrating and wearisome. Especially the 'difficult' and 'fiendish' versions. It takes me long enough to sort out the 'easy' and 'mild' ones, thank you very much, and I am incapable of holding in my head the assumptions you need to make on the harder versions.

Also, when you find you have made a mistake, unless you realise immediately, you can never work out which numbers are right, and which are wrong.

Bloody hell, their crosswords are hard enough without The Times introducing these new puzzles which then get cloned across every newspaper going.

So, banned. There, it's done. Those of you still doing Su Doku puzzles are now officially outlaws.

I shall not be merciful: you have been warned.

They are horrible, nasty things designed to make those of us who are innumerate feel bad about ourselves. Any participants will be first against the wall come the revolution.

Are you suggesting that you use an evil device to solve an evil problem...?

Tut tut, Ms H, tut tut.

Not my evil problem - I was wise enough not to get addicted. But it will solve other people's problems.

What do you expect she willingly and enthusiastically serves the evil device and wants us to all become it's slaves. FEAR HER!

I can do them.
Even the hard ones.
I enjoy doing them, so there.
I do them in Ink (and Tippex)
I do them on the tube coming home and aim to have finish by the time I get to Kennington.

Outlawing me means no more Pasta Yuk, Big Soup or the upcoming chance to watch Sky Sports whenever the b*gg*rs decide to come and install it.

Wanted: Lardy, uncivil servant for verbally abusive friendship. Benefits include: overfeeding; opportunity to have the cables in their PC put into the correct holes; provision of oddly-textured oriental cakeage and graphic novels (I'll have those back please)

Ah, but it's more fun than a bucket full of frogs. Plus the frustration at mistooks is all part of it. I shall avast and join the Merrie Men as an outlaw.

Though I've never liked arithmetic, I was still reasonable enough to believe that numbers in themselves are not evil, but some of the things people do with numbers are positively satanic. A prime example would be (crosses fingers, closes eyes, takes deep breath) algebra, that scourge of schoolkids and right-thinking people everywhere.

Having researched and attempted Su Doku, though, it is now clear to me that all numbers are indeed inherently evil and should be outlawed henceforth. If you want to express a numerical value, just hold up the required amount of fingers and grunt. "How much dies this cost?" Wag, wag, grunt, grunt.

(Whew!) Problem solved. No more Su Doku. No more algebra! Wahey! I am available for my knighthood and free chocolate right now.

Having gone "cold turkey" over the school hols by not doing them on the train to work every morning I now find I'm quite unexcited by them.
