Now I watched West Wing, see; worthy cause though it may be, there's no reason I should watch the dismal entermatainment that is Children in Need on BBC1.

But.

At some point between 9 and 9.30 I knew they were broadcasting a three-minute teaser, linking the previous season of Dr Who with the forthcoming Christmas Special, ahead of the new season in spring 2006. So I taped it.

Well, it started off reasonably enough, recap the regeneration and such, followed by the obligatory bit with Rose not believing her eyes and so on and so forth. Not unexpected. And then, the old chestnut: the regeneration goes wrong, and we are treated to David Tennant bouncing around and giggling like a madman before setting the TARDIS co-ordinates for Earth, Christmas Eve.

As much as I enjoyed the first season, I never quite got used to Christopher Ecclestone's gurning. I really rather hope that Tennant leaves this amphetamine chimp impression behind very quickly.

I watched it and taped it too. Snap verdict “Rubbish.. Awful over-acting” (But I think the kids will love it!) Actually why can't Dr. Who re-incarnate as a woman? Is that possible? I think Fiona Bruce would make an excellent Dr. Who!

I think that the over acting was supposed to portray an unsatble personality, something that's been done before directly after a regeneration. Colin Baker's version infamously tried to strangle his assistant, Peri.

Mary Whitehouse had kittens.

Once the "regeneration crisis" is over they invariably settle down.

I thought he did a good line in big staring eyes.

I just hope they don't continue the love interest. It's so wrong!

Christopher Ecclestone was in Dr Who? He wasn't the doctor, was he? (No Dr Who here in Southern CA). I think he's great, if a bit intense.

Indeed he was the Doctor.

The relaunch was a very great success after nothing since 1989, and it wiped out ITV in thatslot over the spring and summer.
