A Night Out and a Night In.

caddymanA couple of pints, a ukulele orchestra and a decent night’s sleep; that’s all it took. I have managed to get to early afternoon without nearly collapsing in a heap in front of my computer – I still feel a little tired, but nothing on the scale of yesterday when I left early for home and took a 40 minute timeout to collapse on my bed to recover. That refreshed me enough to ease my decision as to whether or not to go and see the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain with ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
ellefurtle and colonel_maxim. The benefit of going, quite apart from some exceptional music (you have to experience it to believe it!), was to meet up with a bunch of people many of whom I see only rarely.
I was so enthralled by the band that I bought two of their albums, and I hope to give them a listen tonight (although with House and Without a Trace, Thursday is one of my preferred telly nights). There was a moment of worry concerning the need for cash since I was down to a few pound coins, but once it transpired that they would take a card well, all bets were off.
I have checked the website and it appears that they are back at the same venue at the end of the month. I daresay that the set will be the same, but I think I may be persuaded to sink another £15 to see them again.
And there will be no football on telly that night, so with luck the Spread Eagle1 will have fewer people in it and I shan’t have to wait quite so long to get a couple of glasses of Kreik.
Not being particularly knowledgeable about Camden, I was intrigued to see a shop that advertised talking parrots2, monkeys3 and such. I hope it’s still trading and not been replaced by something more mundane and entirely anodyne.
Oh well. Back to work, I guess…

2I’ve fancied owning one of those since I saw the story about the Royal Navy mascot parrot whose catchphrase was, "Zulus. Farsands of ‘em!"

Also alas, the shop appeared to be long-closed and was for sale. Hope whoever takes it is obliged to keep the fantastic Deco frontage that was advertising the monkeys and parrots.
And in Camden, the place for Belgian and German beer is Quinns, which is not far from the tube, but is (thrice alas) in the wrong direction for the music venue.

Monday morning.
Event was the last in the NWO series of Ars Magica tribunals which have
been running from 1187 (Taking of Jerusalem) to 1204 (Sack of
Constantinople) in game time and from 2001 real time. Low combat LARP
rather than interactive but with prewritten characters and an intricacy
of plot that probably exceeded that in 1897. Fabulous props, very very
good costuming and characterisation. This time I had a twelve page brief
plus cult, covenant and house information and eighty pages of
background.................
Plus the rules of course. Not a small enterprise.
