I need a mutation; I want to be Iceman or Frozone or somebody similar. Somebody cool and er... cool.

London is mightily unpleasant when the temperatures hit the upper 80os and lower 90os. I believe that the forecast for today is 89-91o. I shan't be enjoying this week at all. And just to add to my enjoyment of the working day, the server is acting very slowly, so I cannot log in to either gmail or hotmail, so my attempts to check that people haven't forgotten this evening's game are coming to naught (Though it does occur to me that I have a couple of email addresses and can get the message passed on. D'OH!).

The office seems to be operating on a skeleton staff this morning. I wonder what I've missed...?

Cities are utterly yuck-worthy when it's hot, and I remember London being bad in any kind of above-normal heat.

Commiserations. :(

Hmm...

You're prolly right, but somehow the concept of ice is more pleasant right now.

Please may I have a bucket of water to stick my feet in.

As you can see from [livejournal.com profile] ysharros's map, it's a good deal hotter here in California than it is in London. My mate Bert said it was 112 degrees in Colton on Saturday. In the mountains it's not much cooler, and the humidity is a bugger. Also, as the woods are tinder-dry up here, we live in constant fear of fires. On Sunday afternoon, we had a few minutes of torrential rain - beautiful! - but it was accompanied by thunder and lightning, which caused a brush fire just a few miles away. Thank goodness the local fire dept was there within minutes and doused the blighter. The rain was too brief to give the forest a good drenching, unfortunately.

So, can we please have your mere 89 degrees? And some fish-n-chips and a few bottles of Gaymer's Old English.

I venture to say that 89 degrees in a city is as bad or worse than 100+ in the mountains.

Anyway, there's several degrees of latitude difference. You live on the edge of a desert and should expect this sort of thing, I don't!

Yeah, I remember one or two weeks here and there of terrible heat and humidity, when I lived in London, but it seems like you are having a whole summer of it.

It seems to be getting worse, too. Instead of the odd day or week, we seem to get the entire summers every year. And the average temperatures seem to be higher each time. Temperatures for today and tomorrow are set to be in the mid 90s. The actual could be higher than the forecast.

Grumble.
