1. Take one 12fl. oz drinking mug.

2. Add a spoon and a half of coffee granules.

3. Add approx. 9fl. oz cold milk.

4. Top up with 3fl. oz hot water.

5. Stir.

6. Place in microwave set to "High" for two minutes.

7. Surprise!

You have successfully recreated, in a coffee cup, the sequence of events that did for Pliny the Elder. It is, unless I am mistaken, called pyroclastic flow.

Well done!

Huzzah!

Is this a "Surprise!" microwave internally coated with milk/ coffee reduction?

Lakeland sell a jug especially desogned for heating milk in the microwave, if you do this a lot. If not, personally I advise filling the mug no more than 60% with milk and watching it like a hawk while it heats on Medium, poised to hit the stop button at any moment. You then add the coffee and hot water.
