Grumble

I just tried to install a web counter on here to see how many visitors I get.

Didn't manage that, but did manage to wipe out and lose all my little customisations. Grumble. I reckon I shall have to try and work out how to add them back in when I get home.

In the meantime, if any of you goodly people can tell me how/where to install a web counter, I'd be grateful. I have the html, I just don't know where to put it to have it show up on my main page. I expect that it will show no visitors anyway since the way LJ friend pages work, but I'm just curious.

Curious and flummoxed.

Heheh then maybe your page will stop hijacking my own preferences whenever I visit it. :-D I still don't know why some people's pages are more assertive than others, but yours definitely is among the "more".

Odd things, these customisations. Especially when, like me, you have zero clue what you're doing.

It depends on the code - usually they're a graphic that has to be loaded, and then the server that the graphic is on keeps track of how often that graphic is loaded.

Where's the code from?

If it's a graphic, you could always make that part of your layout.

It is site meter. The problem is, I don't know how to include it on my main page as opposed to my information page.

I'd like to have it below the calendar but can't fathom out how to insert the code!

I'm guessing that you should be able to design your layout so that it has your own images / code. (Though LJ may well have a prohibition about putting javascript on there - it's very easy to mess up a page that way.)

Under Manage -> Customise -> Custom Option (I think it was...)
There is a field labeled;
"If you have an external web counter, you can enter the HTML for it here"
I don't know if you've already used this, or otherwise what it might do but it sounds relevant
