Pah.

My revamped and upgraded computer has failed me. I have a Wacom ArtPad II that works off a 9-pin serial port. My PC does not have such an archaic port and the USB adapter I bought makes no difference; I can't get the driver to work the ArtPad. It wants to find a non-existent serial port and if I try to get it to use the USB, it just can't see the device.

I think I shall have to try eBay; new USB ArtPads are too expensive for my reduced pocket at the moment. I don't recall them being so expensive!

Did you install any supplied driver for the 9-pin adapter as well as the driver for the Artpad itself?

Yep. It's all plugged in; the usb-serial driver is installed, but the PC can't detect the tablet. It won't recognise it on a usb search and a port search only looks for COMMS1 and COMMS7, neither of which lead it to the ArtPad.

...and have you the latest Artpad driver for Windows XP from Wacom, rather than a win 98 one?

Yes, Dad.

And Granny taught me to suck eggs, too.

Seriously, I've done all the obvious stuff.

If I may change the subject, old fruit, I see you are listening to Focus. Having recdently watched a couple of Old Grey Whistle Test clips of them on YouTube, I asked for some of their other stuff on an internet radio station a few weeks ago, and I must say they are gradually becoming a rather fave rave. I may avail myself of a decent compilation before long. I even (and I never do this) printed out a guitar tab chart of Hocus Pocus and learnt to play the main riff, with its lovely colourful chords.

All together now:
Deedeedeedeedee, deedeedeedeedee, BAM-BAM, BAM, BAM BAM! Repeat all the way home on the tube (or in the Groovemobile).
