A Grand Day Out

It's been a good day if tiring; I'm not used to doing so much walking these days. Naughty: must do more.

Tube down to Tottenham Court Road and then a walk along Oxford Street to M&S so that [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle could acquire additional working clothes, then back along Oxford Street and down to the arse-end of Salisbury Avenue so that I could visit Forbidden Planet. Not as successful as it could have been, but I picked up the new Dreamwatch and this:

TARDIS USB hub

Thence a walk down to Embankment, over the bridge, past the London Eye and down to the Imperial War Museum, which was both a longer and more tiring walk than I remembered. A couple of hours at the museum and then back to Waterloo for the tube home. There was a little debate as to whether we should have stayed in town a bit longer, but given the way we both flaked out on the train home, coming back ahead of rush hour was probably wise.

I didn't find, much less purchase a naval print suitable for framing, but I did buy a copy of this poster depicting what I am pretty sure are fictitious battleships:
British Navy

I'm not aware of any British battleships mounting two forward facing quadruple turrets. Even the King George V class, which mounted two quad turrets only had one fore and aft, the second forward turret being a more standard two gun arrangement. The Nelsons possibly the oddest battleships ever built had three triple turrets...

Anyway, it's on the bedroom door now. I'll have to search out an affordable art print later.

Oh well, shower, now and then bed. Strike's over; work tomorrow.

That was a long walk. I have walked from Waterloo station to the something Hall (why am I thinking of herbaceous as its name?) in Westminster for a dragonmeet way back in the mists of gaming time oh and walked from Paddington to the same hall in the following year I think you are very brave to have walked that far. I know where the IWM is because my ancestors come from that part of London so I have maps - I love maps - and I am good at translating scale maps to real life.

The Methodist Central Hall just next to the QE2 Conference Centre, opposite the Abbey, perhaps?

Darn it that's going to keep me awake now, trying to remember the name of the Hall.

I want one! The poster that is...

Now I have to battle with the internet purchasing eccentricities, I suppose.
