I didn't know that. It's probably only applicable to law enforcement officials (and yes, probably dependent on which state they work in), as my stepdaughter has a pepper spray wotsit, that her mum has told her to have at hand whenever she is walking to the bus stop in the morning, and home from there in the afternoon. Of course, when she even remembers to take it with her, it's at the bottom of her bag, under thirty pounds of text books.
She's not the kind of kid who screams, so such a deterrent would be necessary. I'm also thinking of teaching her how to knee possible assailants in the niagaras, but I don't want her trying it out on me...
My uncle Tom always used to give this advice when my female cousins and I were going out (we were in our teens then) "Any trouble with those boys you whack 'em in the taters and run home." and as I remember - and it was a loooong time ago - we used to walk to the dance or youth club (this was the 1960s) in flat shoes and put the old winklepicker stiletto heeled shoes on for the dancing. These days they don't even wear a coat to keep their kidneys warm

I thought that related to mace & pepperspray.
Is this dependent on the state?

Part of me suspects the 30lb of books swung round might be more effective
