Just to prove that I have wider musical tastes than many of my friends give me credit for I am listening, God help me, to Petula Clark's greatest hits. I feel five again. I swear I haven't heard any of these tunes for at least thirty five years, and one or two for at least forty (yes folks, I am old enough to make these statements). Either my metabolism has slowed by more than I thought, or the tempo of many of the songs is a good deal quicker than I recall.

Meanwhile, Clapham seems to have merged simultaneously with the sun's photosphere and the third ring of Hell. Temperatures such as these do not belong at this degree of latitude. I nipped out to the caff for lunch and now I'm back inside. I do not intend to go out again today. I intend to do some model painting, pausing only to wipe the sweat from my brow and mutter imprecations at the deity.

Another 50p in the meter I think and then turn the fan on. In ten minutes I and every piece of paper in the room will be pinned to the far wall in a blast of cooling air, unable to move until the money runs out.

I have yet to decide whether it's a good thing, but it is a way of passing the time...

Oooh! I love "Downtown."

And... it's stuck in my head, now. Thanks ;-P

You're welcome.

And if this heat keeps up I might diesregard her advice and sleep in the subway... ;-)

Is Chariot on that album? Beautiful song.

Which song makes you feel five again? At that age I was listening to a 78rpm disc of The Little Shoemaker, from before she got fed up of being cute, and went off to be sophisticated in France.

I also have an MP3 of her vocal version (in French) of Foot Tapper, but it couldn't really be described as a greatest hit.

It's You're The One. As I look at the date of it, I realise I was 6 when it came out, but I remember listening to it on the radio on a Sunday afternoon while Mom was cooking dinner.

Both Chariot and The Little Shoemaker are on the CD along with a fair selection of her stuff from the 50's and a couple of her French (and German) songs.
