It might be as well if [livejournal.com profile] rumfuddle read no further.

I must admit, I did not see this one coming and I'm not sure how good an idea it is, but Catherine Tate is to reprise her role as Donna, the eponymous Runaway Bride from last year's Dr Who Christmas special for the whole of season four according to the Beeb. Freema Agyeman will appear in the second half of the season after guesting on a number of Torchwood episodes.

Criminey.

And once again "popular" is confused with "good".

I actually meant Catherine Tate rather than the Christmas special. For me she's okay in her show in short doses in certain sketches, but she's no actress and I don't particularly want to see her try her hand at other things.

Yes, I think the phrase here is "AAARGH" followed by a probable reluctant decision not to watch much of that season. I found Tate's character utterly annoying and unsympathetic, which probably means I'm not down with the kids or something.

There's a rumour amongst the costumiers that Liana knows at the National that not only was Tate lined up for the role, but that she'll largely be wearing Olympic-logo'd clothing for much of the show's run, to get the image into the public eye in a more acceptable fashion. After Rose Tyler mostly wore clothing from the Punkyfish line, she's said to have increased their sales by 170%.

Just kidding. I'm just enjoying the thought of Whovian blood vessels popping all around Britain at the moment. :-)

Bugger.

I'm going to keep an open mind about this but I have some serious doubts about this. I liked last year's Christmas special but Catherine Tate's acting was far too similar to her comedy characters and the only real emoting and acting was done in the very final scenes which were convincing.

But the thought of 13 episodes of Donna's gob, ever present on screen, mouthing off at the Doctor et al....... oh dear me...

The "Doc Confidential" thing mentioned that it was someone from the production crew, probably "stunt" handing for someone who was not there at that point. Supposition is that it is meant to have been Mrs Saxon. Maybe.

No news that I'm aware of, but as it was a female hand that picked up the (clearly) Gallifreyan ring, it leaves us with a couple of possibilities and one probability unless they are introducing a new character.

Everyone was wrapped up in the reappearance of the Master - brought back by the Time Lords and then legging it in fear before hiding as a human. No-one really looked at his wife beyond the fact that she had a known history going back a ways. That's not to say it might not be a made up history. If she is a baddie as she appears to be, then that would mean the Rani, though how she managed not to be spotted by the Doctor unless she was doing the human disguise thing (but who would have acted as her protector?)...

The other possibility is Romana, who was last seenm in E-Space and therefore could quite easily have escaped death with Gallifrey, though is the books are canon she came back to becopme Lord President at some point.

So what was your theory? I like a bit of speculation!

Interesting. I liked Tate, despite a really poor story.

I suspect season 4 is the Gallifrey thing. (I was right last year as well), I suspect salt-of-the-earth-Donna is there for that reason.

We shall see. Season 3 was good, and I suspect season 4 is RTD's last run anyway.

Thing is, everyone said the same before bigmouth billy came along, and look how she worked out... we mustn't be too eager to criticise her before even stepping on set!
