Speculation

With the new Barry Otter book due out on Saturday, I am wondering whether to take the plunge and start reading them. Or maybe just stick to the movies?

I could learn Latin and read my copy of Harrius Potter et Philosophi Lapis

Mmm. Perhaps not.

(I see that there is now an ancient Greek version plus translations of some of the others, too. Apart from me buying one drunk, who on earth is ordering them?).

When I read The Philosopher's Stone I was surprised at just how close the film was to it: more or less word for word and scene for scene. I found very little in the book that I didn't get from the film, which is very rare. Usually there's at least some more depth.

So I decided not to make the effort to read the rest of them. Even if they are also written in foreign.

oh you trendy thing you! You should have it lying on a coffee table or side table in your drawing room so that visitors can see what you do in those moments of leisure.

I enjoyed the books, but pretty much everything you need to know is in the movies and it's better edited...and this from someone who loves to read and hates going to the cinema.

And I read the books before seeing the films.

I read the first one and thought it was very well written, but was obviously for kids. So I didn't read the rest. I guess it depends if you like reading children and young people's fiction or not. Apparently they are aimed at an older (yet still non-adult) audience as the books progress.

Stick to reading the books- I've read all of them (the Order of the Phoenix was a disappointment admittedly) and seen two of the films- refused to go to another film as there was a glaringly obvious transgression from the book in that film which has annoyed me ever since. Being extremely sad the latest book has been on pre order from Amazon for a long time!

Kris bought the complete set on Sunday to read on holiday in a few weeks' time. By 9:30pm last night, she'd finished the first four.
