Exterminate
Wednesday, August 4th, 2004 08:32 pmGood news on the nerd front, Auntie and Terry Nation's estate have settled their differences and the Daleks will be appearing in the new Doctor Who series currently filming and due to air in 2005.
The announcement is here.
As far as I am aware, the dispute was over precisely how to update them for the 21st century, and I'm guessing this has now been resolved. So, something a little more menacing, and a little less like a pepper pot one hopes.
It already looks as though the Autons, one of the Doctor's all time best baddies will be making a reappearance. Gad, I'm looking forward to this like I was 10.

On location, outside Rose's flat. Kennington, S London.
And while I'm at it...

Look what appeared on John Adam Street near the Embankment on 25 July for a few hours...

Date: 2004-08-05 04:59 am (UTC)I shall have to have a listen to that once it's available! It's only just occurred to me that we have no confirmation that the new theme will be the same as previously, although given the Beeb's insistence it be used over Fox's objections for the 1996 TV movie probably suggests we get to keep the old favourite in one form or another...

Date: 2004-08-05 04:45 am (UTC)And in those few hours it was vandalised, fly-posted, defecated in, clamped, had its windows broke, was filled with cards advertising the services of Mistress Whippet, set light to, and a resin cast of it was made by a derivative arts student.
It was occupied in succession by a druggie, a drunk, a pickpocket dumping emptied wallets, a small flash-mob, a string of confused Japanese tourists, a branch of "Starbucks", a pair of nesting pigeons and a chap selling fake perfume.
It was photographed 300 times (200 digital, 99 film and one nutter saying "click" into a fag-packet), towed away by the council, and sold twice on eBay. It hosted a rather small rave, and received a pile of "419" letters from Nigeria and three fines for unpaid congestion charges.
Isn't London wonderful!
