Nostalgic reading

I have no idea why, but out of nowhere a book has popped into my head that I recall enjoying reading when I was what, ten years old?

Knights of the Cardboard Castle by, as it turns out from a search of Amazon, by Elizabeth Beresford, she of Wombles fame. Sadly, it is out of print, otherwise I might have been prepared to let a few quid go on it. Probably just as well.

I recall that it fired up my imagination rather marvelously. Does anyone recall the TV series from the 60s, produced I think, in Canada: The Forest Rangers. In my mind it has the same feel. I think it is the idea of a lair for kids away from adult interference that did it in both cases. Certainly it was something my friends and I aspired to at that age.

Just for a little nostalgia, I'd like to see a copy again.

If you go to Amazon Marketplace and type the title in, there seem to be a few for sale. I managed to get my Mum a copy of a book that was out of print on there a while back which was in very good condition. Good luck Sir!

Try abebooks.com -- there are a couple of copies on there for two quid plus postage....

I think I actually had a copy of this as a kid. That title is strangely familiar – but I just can’t quite remember the story. I seem to remember it being sort of 'Machine Gunners' like…..that title is like a long forgotten scent!

More details please. I’m fascinated.

I don't really have any more details - it was over 30 years ago when I was in primary school! I have a very vague memory that it was a paperback with a red cover and a white line drawing of someone wielding a toy sword, but frankly I wouldn't trust that recollection after all this time.

Never heard of the book, but I do remember The Forest Rangers. Dull though it was, I watched it every week. Discernment? Pah! And yes, it was Canadian.
