I am confused.

Along with a number of friends, I ordered some books from a self-publication site in the US earlier this month; five books in two separate orders to take maximum advantage of the company’s strange postal charges. A day or so later I got a couple of emails back telling me that there was a problem with my orders and I received a refund for all but one of the books I had requested. One order was refunded entirely, the other in part. Disappointing, but at least they were prompt and there was no hassle. I shall reorder the remainder – the bulk of the order – at a later date.

Late last night I received a further email telling me that my order had been printed and had been shipped. Following the link, I came to the dispatch section of the website, which suggests that all three of the books in that particular order have been printed and despatched, though I have now only paid for one.

I shall have to wait and see what turns up on my doorstep I guess and go from there. I just hope that whoever delivers the package treats it with more respect than ParcelFarce did with [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle’s consignment from her academic publishers. They delivered two books and left them on the doorstep, open to the elements. Luckily it wasn’t raining as one of the packages was barely deserving of the name, being a single piece of brown card wrapped (not even fixed) around the book, open at both ends and lacking even an address. Someone in Parcelfarce had clearly been less than conscientious. Happily neither volume was damaged.

More by luck than judgement.
