Well you can tell it’s October in the civil service.

Every year on 1 October, regardless of actual temperatures, the heating ism turned on. It stays turned on until 31 March when, regardless of actual temperatures, it is switched off. Given that the weather is really quite mild at the moment (albeit rainy), the temperatures in the office are a bit of a trial.

This is all the stranger given that we have air conditioning; I would normally assume that the air conditioning would be set to maintain a particular temperature day in, day out, responding automatically to the weather. It feels as though someone has set the ambient temperature a few degrees higher than it should be.

I have a meeting this afternoon. This does not bode well for may ability to stay awake.

Here on the Monsters' floor it is quite cool. Chilly even.
I have put my jacket and tie on to keep warm.

However it is also possible that I'm coming down with something as been a bit clammy and sneezy...

Parliament was much the same, except that the hot period ran from mid October (end of conference season) to mid June (summer hols.) It meant that we had to open the "bomb-proof" windows from April onwards.

Asked why they'd taken the taps off the radiators -- thus preventing room-by-room adjustment -- the SAA's department explained that unless the whole system was on, bits of it would explode. It also took about three weeks to bring it up to full steam, which might explain conference season.
