Here's an interesting snippet: the BBC are to remake "Survivors".

Hopefully they will make a better job of it than they did with their new Robin Hood which has somehow managed to get itself a second season I see (in fact it's largely been aired, though I only found out about it a couple of weeks ago).

Kate Harwood, head of series and serials at BBC Drama Production, said: "The opportunity to remake Survivors for a modern generation proved irresistible.

"After months of negotiations, I am delighted that one of British television's great cult series will return with original stories packed with adventure and spirit set against the backdrop of our own recognisable world."

The new series will be written by Adrian Hodges, who also wrote Ruby In The Smoke, Shadow In The North, Charles II and Primeval, and will be broadcast on BBC One.

As one of the few people who rather enjoyed Primeval I am not worried that the writers are linked to that series.

"Survivors" on Wikipedia.

Indeed. Let's hope it's Dr Who, rather than Robin Who.

Blake's 7 next?

I believe that the BBC have already brought Blake's 7 back for a series of "New Audio Adventures"

The New Version of Robin Hood is absolutely awful, dreadful in every respect.

As long as Dominic "may he expire messily and noisily impaled by a heated iron spear" Minghella isn't allowed within half a mile of any part of the programme's production I have high hopes for it.

The man's a bloody idiot and has ruined a programme that it should not have been possible to ruin.

Oh yes, I knew I'd forgotten to mention something.

It's one I've heard of, but that's as far as it goes. Still the post-plague idea can remain nicely constant.
Especially with bird-flu etc out there.

I loved survivors! some of it was filmed locally (Gwent) on the canal and stuff. I was totally gripped by it, even the boring lovey dovey stuff, and often wondered why it was never repeated - at least repeated when I could watch it.

Oh good grief! I have just read that it was thirty something years ago! but it was impressive - not much in the way of special effects thank goodness all down to good acting. and excellent writing

From my dim memories, the actor who played the "leader" of the survivors decided not to return after a couple of seasons, so the others spent the rest of the series wondering where his character was until they finally decided he was dead. I have to say that spoiled my enjoyment somewhat...

Hmmmmh .... will it still be a case of "nicely spoken middle class types" having to fend off the knuckledragging proles ? Cos I still remember the one with the supposed Trade Union leader and his pack of "bandits".

But, leaving that to one side, yep ....it could be good for a giggle

I loved "Survivors" the first time around. Good 'n' gritty. I hope it's shown over here, or that I can at least watch the eventual DVDs.
