This is most likely my last post until after NWO - I can't be sure that I'll be near a PC tomorrow and certainly wont between Friday and Sunday.

I find myself unexpectedly annoyed. Annoyed at the casual minded ignorance of some people who fail to observe the basic niceties of life: politeness. Now I am readily aware that Real Life intrudes on plans and forces last minute changes. But that is not necessarily a reason not to inform other people that you are changing your plans when you know that your actions will send ripples through other people's plans.

I submit as evidence a purely hypothetical case in which a group of people, have over the past few months spent an inordinate amount of time and sweat, and for no obvious personal reward, in creating an entertainment for a larger group of people. Now of this larger group of people, by far and away the vast majority are upstanding citizens and paragons of gentility, and for whom when life perforce requires they change their plans, they inform the smaller group of such changes that adjustments may be made accordingly.

There is, however, a small sub-set numbering at this moment, two, who have changed their plans but not informed anyone.

In this purely hypothetical case the news comes to the small group of harassed organisers through the pleas for help of a stranded and innocent third party.

This behaviour is impolite and unacceptable, I am sure you will agree.

I would not have the words to describe my mood if this was to happen in reality. Happily I have merely outlined a purely hypothetical case by way of illustration.

This is exactly the reason why EE don't pre-cast characters for our games. Trying to work around people who don't show, for whatever reason, is just too much aggravation. (Yes, I know that the size of NWO stuff means you _have_ to send it out ahead of time...)

I think you as NWO are reaching a point of Name and Shame.

Especially for the people who weren't going to mention to you that they weren't going to turn up. Cos then when the rest of us run events, we can pass a polite "fuck off" to them if they want to play.

Absolutely! s0bs0b and I were pondering a pre-cast event at some point in the future. Any indications of people to avoid would be gratefully received.

Looking at my last print of the castlist the name Jones appears to be a common factor...

That's possibly not a fair way to look at it - there's been a lot of shuffling as well as replacement.

Having a phone conversation with someone who is taking one of the replacement parts at the moment. So I know one of the missing names.

Hmmm.

I have sufficient space in my car to fit several folks so if somebody is hypothetically and physically stranded somewhere between West Sussex and the event I don't mind doing a small detour to pick them up. If, on the other hand, it is their character who is stranded then I can only offer my sympathies to the person involved and to the writing team.
